Kapil Sharma became famous after he hosted The Kapil Sharma Show, which in 2007 earned him the stand-up comedy reality show, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge season 3.

His father was Jeetendra Kumar Punj a head constable in Punjab Police, and his mother Janak Rani was a homemaker. His brother is Ashok Kumar Sharma, a Police constable and his sister is Pooja Pawan Devgan.
